Employment Research Data Center

Welcome to the public use data CD for the project "Evaluating the Effectiveness of Active Labor Programs in Hungary". This document provides basic information about the files on this CD. Clicking on underlined blue text in the sections below will link you to that document.

Acrobat Reader is required for many documents on this CD. If you do not have Acrobat Reader on your system, you may install it from this CD following the instructions in the "Installing Acrobat Reader" section below.

The document CDcontents lists the files included on this CD. A brief overview of the data is provided by the data summary.

The REPORTS subdirectory contains the executive summary, technical report, and public use data documentation.

All data files are located in the DATA subdirectory. The CD contains the Hungary public use data set in ASCII format (.dat files), Stata version 6.0 format (.dta files), and SAS export format (.xpt files). After the survey work was completed, as part of the impact analysis, the W.E. Upjohn Institute created matched pairs comparison groups for each ALP. The matched comparison group samples ES, PSE, Startup, Traingrp, Trainind, and Wagesub are also provided in all 3 formats.

Documentation for these files, including the file layout, can be found in the Hungary_public document in the REPORTS subdirectory. Variable means for each type of active labor program can be found on pages 71 through 95 of the documentation. Please note that this documentation was written for the original ASCII file. Variable names and definitions will be the same for the Stata and SAS export/transport files, but variables may appear in an order different from that given in the documentation.

For those using the SAS export/transport files, the file Import.sas contains a sample program to import the SAS export file into the user’s SAS system. This file can also be found in the DATA subdirectory.

The program Public.sas in the DATA subdirectory provides a sample SAS program for reading the ASCII data file. This program can be used as a guide to read the data into systems other than SAS, and can be opened in any word processing software.

The IMAGES subdirectory contains the header image used in this file. This directory does not contain any information about the project itself.
